Every claim on this property points at the document it came from. This page states how that works, and where it stops.

What gets covered

Coverage is driven by filing acceptance. When the SEC accepts a filing on EDGAR, that acceptance is the trigger and the acceptance timestamp is the dateline — not a press release, not a wire pickup, not an editor’s sense of what matters that morning. Nothing is covered because an issuer asked. Nothing is skipped because an issuer would rather it were.

The consequence is worth stating plainly: the tape is indiscriminate. An ordinary company’s ordinary filing appears next to a large deal, because both were accepted. That is the point.

The Provenance Stamp

Every article opens with the same object: the form type, the acceptance timestamp in Eastern time, the accession number, the filer, and a link that opens the document on EDGAR. We call it the Provenance Stamp, and it is not decoration — it is the article’s citation, rendered where you can see it rather than buried in a footnote. If a figure on the page disagrees with the filing, the filing is right. Check it. The stamp exists to make checking a single click.

How the structured fields are read

Terms tables, deal figures, and timelines are extracted from the primary document — the filing itself, not a summary of it — by marker extraction under human supervision. Extraction is imperfect, so the rules are: a field either carries a value read from a source, or it renders an em dash with the reason it is absent. A value is never estimated, inferred from a similar company, or carried over from a previous filing. “Not disclosed in the filing” is a real answer and we publish it as one.

What is machine-generated, and what is not

Filing coverage publishes at machine cadence under the BCS Filing Desk byline, labelled as automated, edited under the supervision of the principals. Education and research carry a principal’s personal byline and a review date, and that date records a review that actually happened. We do not pretend a human wrote each wire item, and we do not pretend a machine wrote the analysis.

What this property does not do

Corrections

An article on this property is a permanent record, so it is not silently edited. When something is wrong, the correction appends: a dated line under the stamp stating what changed and why, with the original text intact above it. Pages do not unpublish and URLs do not move. If you find an error, the fastest route to a correction is the accession number from the stamp and a sentence about what it says.
